The Class 7 Learners license in Alberta is stage 1 of a 3 stage process. These are new drivers who are still learning, and often times younger. Because of this, there are limitations and special criteria.

A class 7 learner must have a Class 5 licensed person in the passenger seat. They can not drive completely alone.

A class 7 driver is still learning, and requires experienced supervision.

The Class 5 Driver that is supervising the learner, must be a fully licensed, non-GDL (stage 3) driver.

They must also be 18 years of age, and in the front passenger seat specifically. It is not enough to be in the back seat.
